There are two former police officers serving time in relation to the case, accused of carrying out the crime. One of them, Élcio de Queiroz, decided to enter the prize-giving program, confessing to the crime and handing over his accomplices in the attack that killed activist Marielle Franco and her driver, Anderson Gomes. Élcio drove the car, while the shots were fired by militia member Ronnie Lessa. In today's actions, based on such accusations, the Federal Police arrested firefighter Maxwell Simões who, according to Élcio, would have been in charge of the bell that accompanied the councilwoman's steps, and, after the crime, he was in charge of disposing of the car and to the weapon used, a submachine gun, as suspected by the police.
By the way, the use of this weapon in the crime against the councilor and her driver was fundamental for clarifying what happened, as it is a weapon for restricted use, in addition to requiring a lot of expertise in its handling. As is known, Mr. Ronnie Lessa, before entering the underworld of organized crime, possessed great police expertise, working in elite groups of the Civil Police and the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro, as well as Adriano da Nóbrega, killed in the Bahia. The trajectory of these two police officers is curious. Ronnie Lessa, for example, started his professional life as a quiet tattoo artist.
