Amidst the political turmoil in the federal capital, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was, yesterday, in Pernambuco, where he visited the Jeep factory, in Goiana, Mata Norte, on the occasion of the launch of yet another model by the automaker. Unlike what happened in Bahia, where he was in the hostile environment of the agro and was booed, here in Pernambuco he was in his stronghold, that of the metallurgical workers, who applauded him effusively, making him not hide his emotion. Despite the problems of social inequalities in the city, Goiana faced a good moment with the installation of the Jeep factory in the region, generating jobs, attracting other investments, such as the glass industry and the significant expansion of tourism equipment, making life easier for those who wish to discover its coastline, formed by the beaches of Ponta de Pedras, Carne de Vaca, Catuama and Barra de Catuama.
Since the colonial period - Goiana has always been a strategic city, a warehouse for the disposal of the great product of the time, sugar cane, which made the wealth of the state mill owners. Former governor Eduardo Campos even promised a port and an international airport for the city, projects that were never implemented. Governor Raquel Lyra was also there. Perhaps it would be a case of resuming negotiations with the Federal Government in order to materialize the former governor's projects?
We would invite the president to return to the city on the last Sunday of April, when the performance of the Heroines of Tejucupapo is staged, which takes place in the district of Tejucupapo, in an allusion to the battle between the women of the district and the soldiers of the West India Company , during the period of Dutch occupation, who tried to invade the place and were repelled by the women, using sticks, stones, hoes, peppers and boiling water. There he would feel the true "pulse" of the city.
