A good exercise for researchers - whether in the area of ​​Political Science or not - is to go into the reports of these polling intentions to know their details, far beyond the absolute numbers that indicate the performance of candidates "x" or "y ". Thus, we learn, for example, which social strata are more sympathetic to this or that applicant, their level of education or geographic region, age group, race and even gender issues can be inferred. It's a kind of x-ray of the research, from which, in fact, important conclusions can be drawn.

The most radical groups in the PT, for example, vehemently reject this alliance between Lula and former Toucan governor Geraldo Alckmin (No Party), but it is essential for the PT to reassure the market and manage to establish a link with the electorate more conservative, an important political seam, which contributed, for example, to the victory of the candidate of the left in the Chilean elections, Gabriel Boric. It is known that, if it reaches the Planalto, it will, in a certain way, govern with tied hands, within the strict limits established by our economic and political elite. Fundamental reforms for the country were not implemented during the PT coalition governments. On the other hand, a "pure blood" plate, formed by progressive sectors, would face enormous difficulties to succeed, mainly in the Brazilian political situation.

The PT candidate, no pun intended, also has a foot in the slave quarters, in the deep pillory of poverty and social inequalities in the country. Here is a happy expression of the educator Anísio Teixeira. Among the postulants who are there, Lula is the only one who knows the drama of poverty up close. Poverty that has even worsened in recent years, due to the pandemic, recession, unemployment and loss of income. Although they touch on this wound, like Sérgio Moro (Podemos) and João Dória (PSDB), it sounds artificial, coming from people from the Curitiba forums or from investors on Avenida Paulista. He is different from someone who knows the language of "Beco da Fome" or the Jequitinhonha Valley.

And it is exactly this differential of the PT – in relation to the other candidates – according to writer Thomas Traumann, from Veja magazine, that is making the difference. According to the last two surveys of voting intentions, carried out respectively by IPEC and Datafolha, Lula can settle the bill in the first round. Of course, a lot of water has yet to flow into the river for these upcoming presidential elections. Drawing definitive conclusions, at this point, would be rash, but the PT should maintain the primacy of communication with these poor people, a voter he knows so well, as well as their needs: From placing a child in a public university to that barbecue on the roof, with family and friends over a weekend. It doesn't even have to be rump steak, just a little chicken wing.
